As this year’s Lantern Festival (3rd of March) is approaching, the Austrian Overseas Chinese Retirees Association held a dazzling masquerade ball on 28th of February. The event is a way of celebrating the traditional Chinese New Year but moreover, of showcasing the community’s integration into the local culture.
With flickering lights and flowing music, the festive atmosphere at the ball unfolded, lively, relaxed, pleasant, and elegant. The masked faces and elaborate clothing brought different personalities to familiar friends. Hearty laughter and big joy permeated every corner of the venue.
Mr. Zhou Ti, deputy head of the ballroom dancing group, moderated the event. Mr. Qian Faqiang, president of the Association who delivered a speech, highly praised the contributions made by the ballroom dance group in fostering emotional connections among the members, which added value to the members’ daily life as well as their physical and mental health.
Ms. Gao Ping, head of the ballroom dance group, warmly welcomed everyone and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the guests. She was delighted to share this wonderful moment with everyone, hoping that through such festive activities, happiness and health will always be present, and that ballroom dancing will become a bond for people to nourish mind and body.
The ballroom dance group arranged a gift-giving moment that symbolized reunion, good fortune, and best wishes to the participants. The signature game “Guess Who He Is” was, as always, a delightful surprise. Ms. Hu Ailan and Ms. Zhu Xiaoyue – also deputy heads of the ballroom dance group – made the first appearance, igniting big fun for the occasion.
As the ball officially opened, “strangers” met in dance, greeted each other with smiles, leaving their real identity behind and appreciating each other in fascination.
With the familiar melody of “Unforgettable Tonight” coming up, the ball approached to its end. Yet people were reluctant to part. They seemed to have left the heart at the spot, aspiring for the next masquerade time. Welcoming the Chinese Lantern Festival, this dazzling ball is yet to become every participant’s unforgettable and beautiful memory. (20260301）
